The "town square" is today just a strip of green, like a highway median. Most of the land was taken years ago to create parking spaces on both Temple St. & Main St.

Freddie Mae Cole Tyson (May 21, 1924 - March 16, 2006):
"Mrs. Freddie Mae Cole Tyson, 81, of Pleasant Grove Road, Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Tanner Medical Center in Villa Rica, Georgia.

"She was born May 21, 1924, in Fulton County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Cole and the late Arie Cain Cole. Mrs. Tyson was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Villa Rica, Georgia where she was a member of the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class. She retired from the Carroll County Board of Education as lunch room manager from Villa Rica Elementary School and she also retired later from Berry’s Pharmacy. Mrs. Tyson was a founding member of the Villa Rica Saddle Club and hosted many horse shows at the Tyson Arena. She served as co-president for the PTA and served for the Heart Fund.

"In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tyson was preceded in death by her husband, Ray B. Tyson; her brother, Otis Cole; and her sisters, Esma Sauls and Jewell Barber.

"Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma and Billy Fountain, Sr. of Villa Rica, Gayle Norred of Villa Rica, Kathy and Larry Carroll of Whitesburg, Nancy and Frank Boyette of Villa Rica; her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Lynn Tyson of Winston and Jerry and Carolyn Tyson of Villa Rica; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ruth and Jewell Thomasson of Fayetteville and Nell and Rev. Ralph Tapley of Villa Rica, James and Lynn Tyson of Douglasville; 14 grandchildren, Selena Nelson of Villa Rica, Peggy and John Henry of Villa Rica, Jimmy Frampton of Villa Rica, Tammy and Jimmy Cox of Villa Rica, Kim Farr of Ohio, Billy and Karen Fountain of Dallas, David and Tammy Norred of Rome, Kay and Paul Witheril of Temple, Chris and Janet Entrekin of Carrollton, Brad and Shannon Entrekin of Bremen, Matthew Tyson of Winston, Karlyn Tyson of Winston, Tyson Boyette of Villa Rica and Jessica Boyette of Villa Rica; 7 great-grandchildren, Madison Nelson, Cain Nelson, Erica Farr of Villa Rica, William Farr of Ohio, Jeremiah Witheril of Temple, Brigit Entrekin of Carrollton and Brant Entrekin of Carrollton; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

"Mrs. Tyson will lie in state at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Villa Rica Sunday, March 19, 2006 from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at 2:00 PM from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Villa Rica with Rev. John Meadows officiating. Pallbearers will be David Norred, Billy Fountain, Jr., Chris Entrekin, Brad Entrekin, Tyson Boyette, Matthew Tyson, William Farr, Paul Witheril and Brant Entrekin. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Villa Rica, Georgia.

"The family will be receiving friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Friday, March 17, 2006 from 7:00PM until 9:00PM, Saturday, March 18, 2006 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM. Those desiring to do so may make donations to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Fund, 1003 Pleasant Grove Road, Villa Rica, Georgia, 30180" ~ Jones-Wynn Funeral Home
