Wheal Coates Mine, a disused mine workings situated on the North Cornwall Coast.
The lonely chimney is away from the main workings of the mine and connected to buildings further down the hill towards the cliff and sea, by way of an underground flue.
The whole site not only mined the ore (tin) but also refined it. In doing so and in the the process of refinement Arsenic was a by product which was burn off.
The remote chimney took away the toxic products of combustion away from the workings
