The 2NU transmitter opened on Tamworth Road, in 1948 [ex: (visit link) ]
There had been controversy over the 'call-sign' for 2NU in 1954, which was being broadcast as "2NU Tamworth". The local council wanted a bit more representation of the diverse nature of the land it was reaching, especially as it was being broadcast 'from' Manilla. The suggestion was: "ABC Regional Station 2NU, Manilla, broadcasting from our Tamworth studios." The proposal was turned down. [ex-Trove, copy of 'Manilla Express', 19 November, 1954: (visit link) ]

Its EIRP is 16KW (from the link below), broadcasting at 648 KHz.
