"Nichée au fond de l’impressionnante vallée de la Meuse, Profondeville est habitée depuis le néolithique et son nom de 'Profunda villa' lui vient de l’époque romaine. Parmi le patrimoine forestier de la commune, riche de 633 hectares, se trouve un intéressant arboretum. Installé en 1917 dans le bois communal de la Petite Hulle, il abrite 66 espèces mêlant essences feuillues et résineuses, exotiques et indigènes bénéficiant du climat tout à fait particulier de la vallée de la Meuse.

Situé sur une boucle admirable de la Meuse, le jardin botanique culmine à une altitude de 130 mètres. il s’étend sur une superficie de 5,35 ha. son périmètre est rectiligne et plus ou moins au carré. Par contre, le tracé des chemins qui le parcourt en tous sens évite la monotonie des lignes droites. Une piste de santé permet de découvrir sportivement les richesses dendrologiques de ce lieu agréable."
