"Models of 27 or so churches around the country were built by Stan Green and his brother from Alresford, Essex, along with several interesting parts of churches they had visited after they had retired from business. When they died without kin, their executors found these models in the house and made it known that they would be disposing of them unless someone came forward to preserve them.

The villagers of Alresford felt that there was some value to them but had nowhere to store them, so the Post Office took 15 of them in and had them on display for some time. The remaining 12 church models and the rest of the pieces were taken away by someone (unknown). When the Post Office changed hands, the new people wanted more space and asked that the churches be removed.

The then Clerk to Alresford Parish Council came forward and took them in - all but one which remains behind the counter still, and the model of Long Melford church given to Long Melford Parish.

When she left the village, Mr and Mrs Fitch gave the models storage space in their garage, where they were seen by several members of the Friends of All Saints’ who thought they would make an interesting addition to the display at the 2005 All Saints’ Fair.

The models were brought to Brightlingsea on 12 August and displayed in the Lady Chapel for the Fair on 13 August. The Friends would have liked to make a permanent display of these models and, in the first instance, volunteers got together during the coming months to do some restoration of the graveyard grasses which were suffering from neglect (what's new?). Also, some cleaning of the structures (to remove cobwebs and loose dust, was done. The wiring was checked and connection made to some power so that the models could be lit up.

The Friends hoped to put up display shelving towards the west end of the church to house the models and make a booklet explaining their history. Research was being done towards this end.

However, the new Vicar does not like the idea of a permanent display in All Saints’ Church and the 13 models are being disposed of to the various churches they represent."
