Why would a turtle cross the road on May the Fourth? To escape some phantom menace, or perhaps seek a new hope on the other side? Several of us were working through a Star Wars geo-art when we encountered this large - and rather scruffy looking - traveler. Slimy? Mudhole? My home this is! The
red-eared slider and
common box turtle are the two most frequently encountered land turtles in Oklahoma, and from the shell shape and pattern we decided that this was a slider. We saw him safely move along his way and went about our business.
