This pillar is situated at only 41 metres above sea level in the Howe of Fife, just west of the village of Springfield, between the towns of Cupar and Ladybank. It lies along a track on the south side of the main east coast railway line close to the farm of Ballomill. The pillar is still in reasonable condition with views extending to the higher hills of Fife in all directions.
STEEPNESS: None
TERRAIN: Easy walking on a farm track.
ACCESSIBILITY: The track is public right of way that runs between Springfield, west to the minor road at the level crossing at Jennystown. The pillar is nearly a mile from Springfield, and two miles from Ladybank.
NAVIGATION: Easily found by the side of the track next to the railway line. From Springfield the track heads south-west from near the centre of the village and then heads southwards around a wood, before heading under the railway and turning west. The pillar then comes immediately into view hard up against a tree stump. From the west it is a a few hundred yards straight along the track from the level crossing.
