Stained glass windows in St Peter's church, Widmerpool.

"With the exception of the Georgian glass in the aisles, which is of 1820 origin, the remainder is fairly modern and was installed during the restoration.

The east window is essentially an Ascension window showing ‘Christ in Glory’ and depicting the eleven male disciples and one grieving female figure, probably Mary the mother of Christ.

The inscription reads:
+ TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF ANDREW LOW WHO DIED JUNE 27TH 1886 AGED 73 YEARS +

There is one other example of stained glass that is secreted on the north wall of the chancel behind the organ pipes. It is a double window (above the external stone shields) with a delightful country landscape and as it is hidden, it would suggest that the original intention for this part of the church might have been a Lady Chapel, before the installation of the organ.

The west window, a richly coloured composite, is a memorial window. It was made by Heaton and Butler and installed during the first phase of restoration in 1888-89. The inscription reads:
To the Glory of God and in loving memory of Bevil Grenviele Bruce Grenfell born May 9th 1878 died July 19th 1884.

Bevil Grenville Bruce Grenfell, the son of Harry and Amy Grenfell, died in Eastbourne in 1884. The loss of this six year old family member was obviously deeply felt and this is evident in the fact that the child is featured in the left arm of a seated Christ. The image of the boy is accurate. The scene is supported by an attendant circle of ‘Angelic Musicians’."
