May Stephenson was born May Bolton in Barrow. In 1930 she married Telford Stephenson, spending several years in the USA. Returning in the early 1960s to Barrow, she began to paint when confined to bed, infirm and starting to lose her sight.
The painting can be found in the Dock Museum, Barrow.
