Les bâtiments qui abritaient les services médicaux de l'ancien Centre Hospitalier avaient été construits au milieu du 18ème siècle selon une architecture de type Hôtel Dieu. Ces services avaient fait l'objet de rénovations majeures à partir des années 1960 jusqu'à la fin des années 1980 avec notamment la construction du plateau technique. Malgré les réhabilitations successives au fil des années les différents bâtiments avaient conservé un aspect assez disparate et peu fonctionnel. De surcroît le site intra urbain particulièrement enclavé n'autorisait que peu d'évolutivité et son accès devenait complexe compte tenu de l'augmentation des flux de patients et visiteurs.

Au début des années 2000, l'établissement engage une démarche de demande d'autorisation de reconstruction du site qui aboutit en 2003. L'autorisation donnée par l'Agence Régionale d'Hospitalisation porte sur la construction d'un pôle de santé public- privé associant le Centre Hospitalier de Manosque, le Centre d'Hémodialyse des Alpes, deux GIE pour la scanographie et l'IRM et un laboratoire d'analyses médicales.

C'est donc dans ce contexte que démarre en 2004 la programmation architecturale fondée sur le travail des « groupes utilisateurs » constitués de représentants de tous les services médicaux et non médicaux, toutes catégories professionnelles confondues.

Les travaux démarrent en mars 2007 pour s'achever en février 2010.

Après pratiquement trois ans de travaux et près de huit ans après la décision de sa construction, le centre hospitalier Louis-Raffalli ouvrait ses portes le 26 avril 2010

Le transfert des patients a lieu fin avril 2010.

Cet équipement qui a coûté un peu plus de 76 millions d'euros a été financé dans son intégralité par l'Etat. Dans une période où les fonds publics sont en baisse et ou on accuse l'Etat de tous les maux, c'est un bien bel exemple d'investissement solidaire» a déclaré le premier magistrat.

Aujourd'hui, le nouvel hôpital de Manosque emploie 613 agents et a été conçu pour un bassin de vie de 110 000 habitants.

The buildings that housed the medical services of the former Hospital Centre were built in the middle of the 18th century according to a Hôtel Dieu style architecture. Work began in March 2007 and was completed in February 2010.

After almost three years of work and nearly eight years after the decision to build it, Centre hospitalier Louis-Raffalli opened its doors on April 26, 2010
