This is a commemorative tree planting arboretum is located next to the Sulby River in the Sulby Claddagh.

There is a wooden-framed notice board (at the co-ordinates of this Waymark) with a glass-front which contains a white sheet which gives the names of those for whom the tree have been planted.

The sheet is headed with the following text:
"This plaque was unveiled by
ALDERMAN S. G. EDWARDS J.P.
Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil
4th April 1969

TREES WERE PLANTED
IN THE NAME OF:"

The first entry at position No. 3 is "THE CHILDREN OF ABERFAN 1966" this gives a clue as to why a councillor from south Wales performed the opening ceremony.

At around 9:15 am on 21 October 1966 there was a catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil tip in the village of Aberfan near Merthyr Tydfil. The spoil slipped down the hillside and onto the Pantglas area of the village. The main building hit was the Pantglas Junior School and 109 pupils and 5 teachers were killed. (visit link)
