This memorial of a serviceman standing on a plinth was erected to commemorate the men from Stone who died during the First World War and was later amended to honour the dead of the Second World War.

The memorial was sculpted by Albert Toft and unveiled by the Earl of Dartmouth PC KCB and dedicated by REV G R Newman.

It takes the form of a square pedestal surmounted by a soldier, bare-headed, with belt, haversack and water bottle standing with a short lee-enfield rifle in reverse arms. A steel helmet is at his feet.

There are bronze plaques on each of the four sides of the pedestal with names of the dead from both World Wars. The original list of names from World War I also has the legend 'Their name liveth for evermore'. link
