Babe Ruth Park, a park and rest area on the north side of I-40 in Gallup, New Mexico, hosts a number of displays and works of art. Among these is a life-sized silhouette sculpture of a cowboy, complete with boots and spurs, and a mermaid perched on a fence. There is no identifying information with the sculpture, so the name and artist are unknown, and we will never know how a mermaid made her way into the deserts of New Mexico.
