Saint Anthony Mary Claret (December 23, 1807 – October 24, 1870) was a Spanish Roman Catholic archbishop and missionary, and was confessor of Isabella II of Spain. He founded the congregation of Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, commonly called the Claretians.
After a retreat in Rome he wanted to join the Jesuits, but due to illness he had to leave the novitiate again. Back in Spain he soon began successfully with popular missions, which now became his central task. But because of persecutions he had to put back again and again. From 1843 to 1847 he then wandered preaching through Catalonia. Because of new persecutions he shifted his activity 1848 to Gran Canaria, where he held popular missions in almost every municipality.
On the 150th anniversary of the mission of Firgas, this colourful tile sign, made in Seville, was attached to the church of San Roque.
