The current building was re-built in the 13th century with the south aisle added later. The church was restored between 1886-1888. The clock was installed for Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee in 1887.
The clock face consists of an iron 'skeleton' dial on both the south and west faces of the church tower, with partly gilded roman numerals and hands, although now much of the gilding has worn off.
