Le moulin à vent de Contrecoeur est un moulin à farine construit entre 1742 et 1745. Ce moulin-tour en pierre des champs comporte trois niveaux et est coiffé d'un toit conique. Il s'élève sur un vaste terrain en bordure du fleuve Saint-Laurent, à proximité de ses larges berges au relief plat, en face des îles de Contrecoeur. Il se situe dans la ville de Contrecoeur.
Informations historiques
Le moulin à vent de Contrecoeur est construit dans la seigneurie du même nom. Cette seigneurie, située sur la rive sud du fleuve Saint-Laurent, à l'est de Montréal, est concédée en 1672 par Jean Talon (1626-1694), premier intendant de la Nouvelle-France, à Antoine Pécaudy de Contrecoeur (1596-1688), officier du régiment de Carignan-Salières. Afin de stimuler le peuplement de la colonie, le seigneur est obligé de construire un moulin à farine pour ses censitaires et, en vertu du droit de banalité, il est le seul à pouvoir le faire. En contrepartie, les censitaires doivent y faire moudre leurs grains et verser au seigneur une redevance. Antoine Pécaudy de Contrecoeur (1596-1688) fait ériger un moulin en 1686, année au cours de laquelle un arrêt du conseil souverain transforme en loi ce devoir des seigneurs et fixe à un an le délai pour la construction des moulins, à défaut de quoi le seigneur perd son droit de banalité. The windmill of Contrecoeur is built in the lordship of the same name. This seigneury, located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River east of Montreal, was conceded in 1672 by Jean Talon (1626-1694), first intendant of New France, to Antoine Pécaudy de Contrecoeur (1596- 1688), officer of the Carignan-Salières Regiment.
