[FR] La ceinture des Hollandais est un canal creusé à la fin du XIIIe siècle, sous le nom d'Achenal-Neuve ou Achenal-le-Roi. Vers 1280, alors que les dessèchements de marais réalisés depuis un siècle au moins, font la prospérité des paroisses environnantes, un contentieux s'élève lorsqu'une nouvelle chaussée, appelée le Pontreau, et un pont sont construits par-dessus la rivière Vendée, entre Le Poiré-sur-Velluire et Velluire. Les arches de ces ouvrages n'étant pas assez larges, l'eau de la rivière s'écoule mal, surtout en hiver, entraînant l'inondation des terres en amont, jusqu'aux faubourgs de Fontenay-le-Comte, notamment celui des Loges. Les Fontenaisiens se ruent alors sur le pont pour le démolir, détruisant au passage la digue ou bot de l'Anglée, située sur la rive droite de la Vendée (la digue et la ceinture orientales du Marais Sauvage, à Marans, en reprend aujourd'hui une partie du tracé), ce qui provoque l'inondation des marais à l'ouest de la rivière Vendée.

[EN] The belt of the Dutch is a canal dug at the end of the thirteenth century, under the name of Achenal-Neuve or Achenal-le-Roi. Towards 1280, while the marsh dries realized for a century at least, make the prosperity of the surrounding parishes, a dispute arises when a new causeway, called the Pontreau, and a bridge are built over the Vendée river, between Le Poiré-sur-Velluire and Velluire. As the arches of these structures are not wide enough, the water of the river flows poorly, especially in winter, causing the flooding of the lands upstream, as far as the suburbs of Fontenay-le-Comte, notably the lodges. The Fontenaisiens rush then on the bridge to demolish it, destroying in the passage the dyke or bot de l'Anglée, located on the right bank of the Vendée (the dam and the oriental belt of the Marais Sauvage, in Marans, takes again today part of the route), causing swamps to flood west of the Vendée River.
