Bikes are red or white — depending on one of two sponsors’ branding. A solid metal basket in front of the handle bars has a cup holder and looks large enough to hold about a cubic foot of cargo -- up to 20 pounds per the company. The unit containing the solar powered battery for the keypad, GPS, and “e-assist” electric motor is mounted above the rear tire. A fully charged bike can travel travel 30 to 40 miles with electric pedal assistance according to the JUMP website.
The company offers a rate plan for financially disadvantaged residents. As of the creation of this Waymark, the rate is $5.00 for 60 minutes riding time per day for the entire first year, then $5.00 per month.
Riders may reserve bikes up to an hour ahead of time. A free ride is offered for the return of "out of hub" bikes.
The app and website feature maps with pin drops for each rental location (number of bikes available and total racks) and current position of available bikes scattered throughout the city.
