This is a statue of Max, the Grinch's loyal companion, and likely the most long suffering and well natured dog of all time.

Max has always been a favorite Dr. Seuss character in our family. He is a stereotype of the good natured, long suffering, forgiving companion that a dog can be.
In this statue he stands smiling beside his not so friendly companion, the Grinch. The statue is part of the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, a must see for any Dr. Seuss fan.
In the photo, Max is once again having his antler worked on, this time by a welding torch instead of the Grinches saw.
