OVERCUP OAK
Quercus lyrata
The Overcup Oak is a member of the white oak group and its leaves are very irregular with nine lobes with a distinct narrow wedge at its base. The acorn of this oak is ½ to 1 inch long with a cup that almost encloses the fruit, giving this species its common name. Its acorn is an important food source for squirrels, turkeys, and deer.

The Overcup Oak is an extremely hardy tree that can adapt to very difficult environmental conditions. It prefers dry areas with full sun, making this tree and excellent street tree. The Overcup Oak is a slow growing tree that normally reaches a height of 30 to 40 feet.
