The official name of Robert Shure's bronze sculpture on a stone bench outside Shillman Hall is "A Man and a Cat Named Yitz", though the campus community named it Shillman Cat soon after it was mysteriously installed in February 2011.

It is, literally, a man and a cat named Yitz. The fun backstory is that this bronze statue appeared overnight and without announcement on February 24, 2011. After a few days Northeastern University put out an email asking the campus community to guess the man's identity. Most surmise it is Robert J. Shillman. And it is.
Shillman is an NU alumnus, founder and CEO of Cognex, and the person for whom the classroom building it is nearby is also named.
Students call the feline Shillman Cat and dress it up on occasion.
