In its early years the city of Wickenburg didn't take time to build a jail. If you were locked up you were chained to an old mesquite tree. No one ever escaped the tree but by the turn of the twentieth century a more substantial structure was called for. As the city's government structure grew the old City Hall and Jail were constructed to house permanent offices and as a place of incarceration. After it no longer served its role as an office it became the fireman's hall and then a senior citizens center. It is brick in a Neo-colonial style.
