The synagoge of Neuwied has been build in 1748 and has been expanded in 1844. The synagogue was placed in the Engerserstr. Nearby a Jewish school was placed. The building has been destroyed in the "Reichskristallnach" in November 1938. The building was never been rebuilded. In the year 1960 a memorial plaque was made an placed at former school building. This building was teared down in 1980. On 30. June 1983 the plaque was renewed and placed on a piece of the wall of the former school building. At the same day, the part of the Engerserstrasse, where the synagogue was placed has been renamed to 'Synagogengasse'.
