The compact Robert E. Freeman Park is at the corner of Westminster and Mathewson streets in Providence, Rhode Island. Within just a few hundred square feet, a low fountain and red benches are bordered by small garden beds on all sides. Shrubs and a short brick wall topped by an iron fence line the street edges to the northeast and southeast while the northwest and southwest sides are enclosed by buildings.
The Providence Redevelopment Agency bought and tore down four dilapidated buildings to create the park. It is named in the memory of a former executive director of the Providence Foundation, Robert E. Freeman, for his work to revitalize the downtown business district.
