The text from the plaque reads:
Named for its designer Robert Parker Parrott. This cannon was one of a group of five experimental rifles made for the Union Army in 1864. It is thought to be the only example that still exists.
Placed in the park in 1910 by the James B. Brainerd Post of the Grand Army fo the Republic, a Civil War Veterans organization.
