"Les bâtiments ont été construits sur l'ancienne plaine des manœuvres. L'architecte ayant assuré la conception est Jacques Depelsenaire. La construction a été réalisée en 1968. En 2006 des travaux débutent au niveau des bâtiments de l'Institut du verre, situés à proximité du palais de justice. En 2010, une fois la rénovation terminée, ils deviennent une annexe à ce dernier. Ils sont occupés par les tribunaux du commerce et du travail.

A Charleroi, le tribunal de première instance est constitué de plusieurs divisions:

1) La Section Correctionnelle : Pour des délits qui concerne des majeurs (hors roulage) dont

- la Criminalité Organisée : Gère les dossiers de criminalité organisée ( trafic de stupéfiants, d’êtres humains, de véhicules volés / fausse monnaie, hold-up, vols à main armée, tiger-kidnapping, home-jacking etc…).

- la Criminalité Individuelle : Gère la grande majorité des dossiers( vol, coups, menaces, escroquerie, faux, etc…).

- le 3ème Bureau : Gère les peine d’emprisonnement principal, surveillances des libérations provisoires et conditionnelles. gestion des déchéances des droits électoraux.

- le 4ème Bureau : Fixation et remise des dossiers d’audiences correctionnelles.

2) La section Eco-Fin : Gère les dossiers de droit pénal économique, du droit pénal fiscal, de droit pénal

3) Section Civile lié à

- Franchimont et naturalisation : Gère des dossiers : demande de nationalité, gestion des requêtes Franchimont, demandes de levée de biens saisis, consultations, devoirs complémentaires.

- Réhabilitation : Gère les demandes de réhabilitation.

- 1er Bureau : Gère les dossiers civils, procédures de mise en observation, incinérations, séjours illégaux, mandat d’arrêt européen et extradition, mariages.

- Armes – Frais de justice : Gère les demandes de port d’armes.

4) Section Famille - Jeunesse : Gère tous les dossiers de mineurs en danger, de mineurs ayant commis des faits qualifiés d’infraction, d’adoptions, déchéance autorité parentale, le tribunal de la famille, non présentation d’enfants, abandon de famille, dossiers mœurs, maltraitance de majeur sur mineur en sphère familiale.

5) Section Police : Pour des infractions de roulage."
