"Die Olympiaglocke befindet sich im Berliner Bezirk Charlottenburg im dessen Ortsteil Westend.
Die Glocke wurde anläßlich der XI. Olympischen Spiele in Berlin hergestellt und in den Glockenturm am Rande des Maifeldes aufgehangen.
Größe der Olympiaglocke
Diese 4,28 Meter hohe Glocke mit einem Durchmesser von etwa 2,80 Metern war am 14. August 1935 vom Bochumer Verein für Gussstahlfabrikation gegossen und nach der feierlichen Überführung in die Deutsche Reichshauptstadt am 11. Mai 1936 in den Glockenturm gehoben worden. Die Olympia-Glocke war das Symbol der Olympischen Sommerspiele 1936 in Berlin.
Sprengung der Anlage
Die ursprüngliche 9,6 Tonnen schwere Glocke wurde Opfer einer Sprengung im Jahr 1947 durch britische Soldaten. Die Glocke überstand diesen Akt mit einem kleinen Riss.
Am 15.02.1947 vergruben Pioniere der britischen Armee die Olympiaglocke auf den 480 m entfernten Vorplatz des Berliner Olympiastadions. Die Glocke wurde schließlich am 16.12.1956 wieder ausgegraben und vor dem Stadion aufgestellt."

The bell was produced on the occasion of the XI Olympic Games in Berlin and hung in the bell tower at the edge of the Maifeld.
Size of the Olympic bell
This 4.28 metre high bell with a diameter of about 2.80 metres was cast on 14 August 1935 by the Bochumer Verein für Gussstahlfabrikation (Bochum Association for Cast Steel Production) and was lifted into the bell tower after the ceremonial transfer to the German Reich capital on 11 May 1936. The Olympic bell was the symbol of the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.
Blasting of the facility
The original 9.6 ton bell was blown up in 1947 by British soldiers. The bell survived this act with a small crack.
On 15.02.1947 pioneers of the British army buried the Olympic bell on the 480 m distant forecourt of the Berlin Olympic Stadium. The bell was finally excavated again on 16.12.1956 and set up in front of the stadium."
