[FR] En 1887, la société Eiffel obtint le marché de la construction du pont sur l'Allier. A cette époque, le village venait de connaître un essor exceptionnel grâce à la construction de la ligne de chemin de fer. A l'occasion de cette construction, des centaines d'ouvriers sont venus s'installer à Monistrol-d'Allier pour un chantier qui a nécessité de véritables prouesses techniques dans cette région montagneuse hostile. Après le viaduc ferroviaire de Garabit en 1884-1885 et l'ossature de la statue de la Liberté à New York, Gustave Eiffel construisit le pont de Monistrol-d'Allier dans l'année qui précéda l'édification de la tour parisienne qui porte son nom. On reconnaîtra d'ailleurs aisément sa signature dans l'architecture.
[EN] In 1887, the Eiffel company obtained the market for the construction of the bridge over the Allier. At that time, the village had experienced an exceptional boom thanks to the construction of the railway line. For this construction, hundreds of workers came to settle in Monistrol-d'Allier for a construction site that required real technical prowess in this mountainous hostile region. After the railway viaduct of Garabit in 1884-1885 and the skeleton of the Statue of Liberty in New York, Gustave Eiffel built the bridge of Monistrol-d'Allier in the year before the construction of the Parisian tower which carries his name. We easily recognize its signature in architecture.
