Le dimanche 13 octobre 1935 est inauguré en bordure du parc communal de Charleroi, côté rue Willy Ernst, un monument à la mémoire des 1er et 4ème Chasseurs à pied. Erigé à l’initiative de la Fraternelle des 1er et 4ème chasseurs et réalisé par MM. Sauvegarde et Vereycken, anciens chasseurs eux-mêmes, on peut y lire:

 « D'ici sont partis, le 3 août 1914, les 1er et 4e Chasseurs à Pied, régiments de Charleroi. 1566 des leurs sont morts pour la Belgique ». 

Les Chasseurs quittaient alors Charleroi afin de défendre la citadelle de Liège, attaquée dès le 5 août 1914 par les Allemands. Le monument fut déplacé dans les années 1990 à l’entrée du parc située au coin de la rue du Parc et du boulevard Defontaine.

Sunday October 13, 1935 is inaugurated on the edge of the municipal park of Charleroi, side Willy Ernst street, a monument in memory of the 1st and 4th Hunters on foot. Erected at the initiative of the Fraternelle 1st and 4th hunters and directed by MM. Backup and Vereycken, former hunters themselves, it says:

 «From here, on August 3rd, 1914, the 1st and 4th Hunters on foot, regiments of Charleroi, left . 1566 of them died for Belgium  ». 

The Chasseurs then left Charleroi to defend the citadel of Liège, attacked on August 5, 1914 by the Germans. The monument was moved in the 1990s to the park entrance at the corner of Park Street and Defontaine Boulevard.
