"Brussels residents and foreign travelers arriving in the Belgian capital by train are used to seeing a head of Tintin and Snowy giant fixed on the building of the Lombard editions, avenue Paul-Henri Spaak.
Building Tintin, today headquarters of the Lombard editions, once housed the Tintin newspaper, published from 1946 to 1988. "Raymond Leblanc, the founder of the newspaper, had this idea during a visit to the factory Mercedes", explains Dominique Maricq.
"Seeing the giant sign of Mercedes, he had the idea to make one of Tintin and Snowy, in the late 50s."
Since then, this symbol of the Tintin newspaper and the Lombard editions, 5 meters high and weighing 3,750 kilos dominates the Brussels sky. The sign was mounted on a ball bearing, pivoting on itself 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. Unfortunately, following some renovation work, the heads of our heroes stopped shooting in 1992.
The sign was however classified "monument historique", in 2004, by the State Secretariat for Monuments and Sites for the Brussels Capital Region. "
