A monument dedicated to the Union soldiers and sailors. The idea for a monument was conceived in 1892 and in 1893 Fritz Triebel was contracted to do the sculpture parts of the memorial. F. Treibel was a native of Peoria, IL, but was working in his studio in Rome, Italy at the time. The monument was dedicated on October 6, 1899.

This monument is located on the east side of the Peoria County Courthouse in Peoria, IL. Parking is on street in metered spaces or in nearby parking decks. The metered spaces are free on weekends and evenings.
