In 1947s England there is still meat rationing. A group of local businessmen is illegally raising a pig so that it can be slaughtered for a civic meal in honour of Princess Elizabeth’s wedding. All goes well until local podiatrist, Gilber Chivers, egged on by his social climber of a wife, Joyce, steals the pig in the night. Joyce and Gilbert try to keep the pig in their front room, but it soon gets out of hand. Eventually Gilbert comes to an arrangement with the businessmen and the civic meal goes ahead.
