Aachener grüßen sich in der Ferne mit dem Klenkes, dem abgespreizten kleinen Zeigefinger. Der Ursprung dieses Erkennungsmerkmals liegt in der Nadelindustrie, bei der mit dem kleinen Finger die schlechten Nadeln ussjeklenkt (ausgeklinkt) wurden. So wurde der kleine Finger zum Klenkes."

Aacheners greet each other in the distance with the Klenkes, the splayed little index finger. The origin of this distinctive feature lies in the needle industry, in which the bad needles were ussjeklenkt (released) with the little finger. So the little finger became the Klenkes."
