[EN] "The Zytglogge, also a time-bell tower is a clock tower from the Middle Ages with a well-known astronomical clock and glockenspiel in the city of Bern, Switzerland.
The bulldozer, which was repeatedly erected, was built between 1218 and 1220 as the western end of the main street of the city of Bern, founded in 1191. With every extension of the city, which could only take place to the west due to the location of the Bernese old town, the tower moved into the city center, lost its function as a defense tower and was then used differently. Before the big city fire in 1405 he served as a prison. Afterwards it was rebuilt as a clock tower - Zytgloggeturm or shortly Zytglogge - from Bernese sandstone. Its tower clock with percussion gave the time for the whole city. The distance from the tower was measured.
In the 16th century, the parallelepiped tower was given a prominent shape and a new clock. The decrees and ordinances are thrown in the passage of the gate, and the length of the mass has been installed for public inspection since the eighteenth century. With the late baroque reconstructions of 1770/71, he was fully integrated into his environment."
