EN: The Grünsee is a small lake located on the southern slope of the Massa gorge about 1.5 kilometers below the glacier tongue of the Aletsch Glacier. It is around 100 meters long and lies at 1614 meters above sea level.
The lake is extraordinarily young for geological conditions. About 80 years ago, the area was still hidden under the glacial ice. Its further development is also scientifically monitored.
Today, the lake can be reached in about two hours on mountain hiking trails from Belalp or Riederalp.
DE: Der Grünsee ist ein kleiner See, der sich am südlichen Abhang der Massaschlucht rund 1.5 Kilometer unterhalb der Gletscherzunge des Aletschgletscher befindet. Er ist rund 100 Meter lang und liegt auf 1614 Meter über Meer.
Der See ist für geologische Verhältnisse ausserordentlich jung. Vor rund 80 Jahren war das Gebiet noch unter dem Gletschereis verborgen. Seine weitere Entwicklung wird auch wissenschaftlich überwacht.
Heute ist der See in rund zwei Stunden auf Bergwanderwegen von Belalp oder Riederalp zu erreichen.
