Le clocher possède une horloge avec des aiguilles et chiffres romains noirs sur un fond vitré dans un cercle blanc.
L'église Saint-Pierre de Besançon est situé dans le quartier de la Boucle, sur la place du Huit-Septembre, au cœur du centre-ville.
Elle fait partie de l'Unité Pastorale Saint Etienne qui regroupe les églises du Centre ville ainsi que celle de Morre.
Fondée au ive siècle, la construction de l'église actuelle commença en 1782 sur les plans de l’architecte Claude-Joseph-Alexandre Bertrand. La hauteur importante du clocher s’explique par son rôle de beffroi de l’Hôtel de ville portant ainsi bien haut la cloche municipale et de loge du guetteur.
L'église renferme aujourd'hui de nombreuses œuvres d'art très bien conservées : la Pietà de Luc Breton, l'original chemin de croix ou encore les splendides boiseries du chœur de l'église.
Actuellement les cloches de l'église ne sonnent plus, dans l'attente d'une réparation du clocher. Le carillon est toujours en état et on peut l'entendre le dimanche à 9 h 20.

The Saint-Pierre church in Besançon is located in the district of La Boucle, on Place du Eight-Septembre, in the heart of the city center.
It is part of the Pastoral Unit Saint Etienne which includes the churches of the city center as well as that of Morre.
Founded in the fourth century, the construction of the present church began in 1782 on the plans of the architect Claude-Joseph-Alexandre Bertrand. The important height of the bell tower is explained by its role as a belfry of the Town Hall thus raising high the municipal bell and lodge of the watchman.
The church today contains many works of art very well preserved: the Pietà of Luc Breton, the original Way of the Cross or the splendid woodwork of the choir of the church.
Currently the bells of the church no longer ring, waiting for a repair of the bell tower. The carillon is still in condition and can be heard on Sunday at 9:20.
