In Boston, along Clarendon Street, is this building with a dated stone above the entrance with the Roman numeral, "MDCCCCXXII" (1922).
The building is located along Clarendon Street between St. James Street and Stuart Street. It is between the skyscraper, 200 Clarendon - formerly known as the John Hancock Tower, and 200 Berkeley Street - now known as the Old Hancock Building. To avoid (some) confusion, this building was renamed the Stephen L. Brown Building, after a member of the Board for John Hancock Financial Services.
The building is a light colored stone facade structure, with large pillars at the entrance on the west side. Above the pillars is the date as mentioned. Below the date is the name, "John Hancock."
The name is from the company that had it built, John Hancock Financial Services, now part of Manulife. The name also references one of the major merchants in Boston during the Colonial times, who also had made that large signature on the Declaration of Independence.
