DESCRIPTION DE L'OEUVRE
Cette grande sculpture aux formes organiques, transparente et légère, initie un mouvement asymétrique dans un lieu construit. Une poésie graphique et sculpturale transposée dans un espace public. Ce travail s’inscrit dans la série Les sculptures habitables initiée par l’artiste en 1969.
Évoquant un geste réalisé à la main, l’oeuvre rappelle un jeu inuit de manipulation de ficelles (ayarak en inuktitut). L’artiste a refait le parcours de la ficelle avec de la broche, puis l’a étiré en sculpture 3D. L’échelle monumentale de la sculpture se réduit à un niveau intimiste lorsqu’on tente de retracer l’origine du geste, son début et sa fin.
«L’œuvre est un lieu qu’on expérimente, qu’on habite et à travers lequel on passe, où il est possible de réaliser une expérience comme celle du rapport à notre propre corps à un type d’espace singulier. On vient à comprendre le corps comme un habitacle naturel et une excroissance potentielle de l’infini. Un site à habiter comme une donnée physique intégrante pour l’œuvre. Le corps du spectateur est placé dans l’ici et le maintenant de la rencontre avec l’œuvre. L’ici et le maintenant d’une expérience de l’espace.» Source: proposition de l’artiste, 2012.

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
This large sculpture formed of organic, transparent, light shapes, initiates an asymmetric movement within a constructed site. A graphic and sculptural poetry is transposed into a public space. This work is part of the series Les sculptures habitables begun by the artist in 1969.
Evoking a hand gesture, the work refers to an Inuit string game (ayarak in Inuktitut). The artist retraced the path of the string with a spindle then stretched it into a 3D sculpture. The monumental scale of the sculpture is reduced to an intimate level when one tries to retrace the origin of the gesture – its beginning and end.
“The artwork offers a site that one experiences, inhabits, and passes through, where it is possible to have an experience like that of the relationship of our own body to a type of unique space. We come to understand the body as a natural living compartment and a potential outgrowth of the infinite. A site to inhabit like a physical given that is integral to the work. The spectator’s body is placed in the here and now of the encounter with the work – the here and now of the experience of space.” Source: artist’s statement, 2012.
