From the State Historic Preservation Office website:

The George Beeman House is a three-story, eleven-room, L-plan, brick-veneer structure built in the Second Empire style. Prominent features of the house include: a dormered mansard roof with a two-story tower rising up above the main entrance in center of the facade; arched windows with elaborate window hoods with keystones; and a dentilated cornice with paired brackets. It is probably Ingham County's finest, high-style Second Empire residence. In the past few years, the recent owners have reconstructed the house's long ago destroyed front and side porches.

The George Beeman house was built by one of the earliest settlers of Wheatfield Township, who played a prominent role in the development of the local community. George Beeman was born in 1816 in Steuben County, New York. He came to Michigan in 1836, and to Wheatfield Township, Ingham County, in 1840. Working at brick-making in the summers and tending a sawmill in the winters, he was able to afford his first land purchase in 843. When his first log home burned in 1846, he replaced it with a modest, frame structure. This served until 1876 when he constructed the present dwelling. The house is an outstanding example of the Second Empire style of residential architecture, and is the only residence of this style in the area.
