[EN] Several options are available to the walkers who wish to reach the top of Mont-Dore which, from its height of its 2625 feet, dominates the lagoon south of Nouméa and allows to take a look at a vast panorama marrying the red clay of the South and the islands and islets facing him. The climb can be done by the Corniche Trail or the Plum Trail.
The ascent of Mont-Dore by the Corniche is arduous but promises breathtaking landscapes.
Mont-Dore draws its important mass south-east of Nouméa. The clear summit allows a look on the whole of the Great South. Among the routes to reach the summit, the most spectacular is probably the one that follows the Southeast ridge of the massif. Early start advised to avoid the heat and mists that frequently invade the summit.
The other option is the Plum Trail. On this slope of Mont-Dore, the hike begins not far from the fountain, at the level of the gap of Plum. The trail takes you to an old mining trail, a remnant of a pioneering 19th century nickel mine.
Whatever the option chosen ascension is sporty: think to take water and something to eat.
