"On the north side of Detroit Lakes, at the corner of Washington Avenue and Union Street, sits a tiny, little city park that was once home to a meeting hall for the local branch of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), Francis Choate Post No. 67.

Detroit Lakes’ own G.A.R. Memorial Park, which was dedicated on the site of the local G.A.R. post’s former meeting hall on Memorial Day, May 30, 1952, is one of only three G.A.R. parks still known to exist in the U.S." Detroit Lakes On-line
