EN: Typical diners know most Swiss only from American films. Most restaurants in Switzerland are very different. One exception is the Solid Gold on Kantonsstrasse in the east of Gamsen. The single-storey building with neon advertising and metal façade - called by the locals "d'Blächbixe" (tin can) - is all about Americana and Route 66 nostalgia.
Of course, this includes the neon advertisements. A large multicolored sign on the roadside and the name above the seating area, which is already slightly damaged.
Ironically, the solid gold is threatened to follow its role model even in its decline. The cantonal road on which it is located, is replaced as a remote connection by the new A9, which passes only about one hundred meters south of the Solid Gold. The days when the "Trucker Welcoome" sign was actually seen by the truckers are over, and the Solid Gold is clearly showing first signs of decay.
DE: Typische Diners kenn die meisten Schweizer nur aus amerikanischen Filmen. Die meisten Restaurants der Schweiz sind ganz anders. Eine AUsnahme ist das Solid Gold an der Kantonsstrasse im Osten von Gamsen. Das einstöckige Gebäude mit Neon-Werbung und Metallfassade - von den Einheimischen "d'Blächbixe" (Blechbüchse) genannt - steht ganz im Zeichen von Americana und Route 66-Nostalgie.
Dazu gehören natürlich auch die Neonreklamen. Eingrosses mehrfarbiges Schild am Strassenrand und der Name über dem Sitzbereich, der allerdings schon leicht beschädigt ist.
Ironischerweise droht das Solid Gold auch in seinem Niedergang seinem Vorbild zu folgen. Die Kantonsstrasse an der es liegt, wird als Fernverbindung durch die neue A9 abgelöst, die nur etwa hundert Meter südlich des Solid Gold vorbeiführt. Die Zeiten als das "Trucker Welcoome"-Schild von den Truckern auch tatsächlich gesehen wurde, sind vorbei, auch beim Solid Gold sind schon klare Verfallserscheinungen zu sehen.
