Réalisée entre avril et août 2004, la fresque des Wallons est une grande œuvre en trompe-l’œil décorant l’entièreté du pignon de l’extension contemporaine de l’hôtel de ville de Namur donnant sur les « Jardins du Maïeur ».
Le principe est de mettre en avant les personnalités marquantes de la Wallonie.
Depuis plus de 20 ans ce mur aveugle de l’hôtel de ville interpellait les Namurois. Initialement, ce pignon devait accueillir une nouvelle aile de la Mairie, aile qui n’a jamais été construite. Les 3 gaines qui courent le long de la façade servent à l’aération du parking souterrain.
Il y a environ 200 références Wallonnes sur ce mur. Plus qu’un trompe-l’œil, la Fresque des Wallons peut se targuer d’être la première « fresque à message » de Belgique.
La fresque est composée de 2 parties principales : Des personnalités réparties à gauche et à droite du mur, du 1er jusqu’au sommet (Blanche de Namur, Dominique Pire, Ernest Solvay, François Bovesse et Georges Simenon, Charlemagne, l’alpiniste Muriel Sarkany, le Marsupilami, la Schtroumpfette, le coq Wallon et la sorcière volante Macrâle), et 4 vitrines thématique à la base :
1 - Vitrine de côté (gauche) : SPORTS. VARIÉTÉS. CINÉMA. FOLKLORE.
2 -Vitrine du centre (gauche) : HISTOIRE ANCIENNE. HISTOIRE CONTEMPORAINE. PERSONNALITÉS. SCIENCES, TECHNIQUES ET INDUSTRIES.
3 - Vitrine du centre (droite) : LITTÉRATURE. POÉSIE. BANDE DESSINÉE. PEINTURE. ARTS PLASTIQUES. MUSIQUE.
4 - Vitrine de côté (droit) : ÉPICERIE - PRODUITS WALLONS, DU TERROIR et autres spécialités culinaires Wallonnes.
Het Fresque des Wallons werd gemaakt tussen april en augustus 2004. Het is een reusachtige trompe-l’oeil die de hele gevel bedekt van de hedendaagse uitbreiding van het stadhuis van Namur, die uitgeeft op de ‘Jardins du Maïeur’.
Het principe is om de belangrijkste persoonlijkheden van Wallonië onder de aandacht te brengen.
Deze blinde muur van het stadhuis is al meer dan 20 jaar een uitdaging voor de inwoners van Namen. Aanvankelijk zou deze gevel een nieuwe vleugel van het stadhuis huisvesten, een vleugel die nooit werd gebouwd. De 3 kanalen langs de gevel worden gebruikt om de ondergrondse parking te ventileren.
Op deze muur staan ongeveer 200 Waalse referenties. Het Fresque des Wallons is meer dan een trompe-l'oeil, het Fresque des Wallons kan er prat op gaan het eerste " muurschilderkunst met een boodschap " in België te zijn.
Het muurschildering bestaat uit 2 grote delen: Persoonlijkheden verdeeld over de linker- en rechterzijde van de muur, van de 1e tot de top (Blanche de Namur, Dominique Pire, Ernest Solvay, François Bovesse, Georges Simenon, Charlemagne, bergbeklimmer Muriel Sarkany, Marsupilami, Smurfette, de Waalse haan en een vliegende Macrâle(heksen), en 4 thematische ramen aan de basis:
1 - Zijruit (links): SPORTEN. VARIETIES. CINEMA. FOLKLORE.
2 - Middenvenster (links): OUDE GESCHIEDENIS. HEDENDAAGSE GESCHIEDENIS. PERSONALITEITEN. WETENSCHAP, TECHNOLOGIE EN INDUSTRIE.
3 - Centrale vitrine (rechts): LITERATUUR. POESIA. COMIC STRIP. BETALING. PLASTISCHE ARTS. MUZIEK.
4 - Zijruit (rechts): PRODUCTEN - WALLON PRODUCTEN, LAND en andere Waalse culinaire specialiteiten
Created between April and August 2004, the Fresco of the Walloons is a great work of trompe-l’oeil decorating the entirety of the gable from the contemporary extension of the town hall of Namur overlooking the “Jardins du Maïeur” garden.
The principle is to highlight the most important personalities of Wallonia.
For more than 20 years, this blind wall of the town hall has been a challenge for the people of Namur. Initially, this gable was to house a new wing of the Town Hall, a wing that was never built. The 3 ducts running along the facade are used to ventilate the underground car park.
There are about 200 Walloon references on this wall. More than a trompe-l'oeil, the Fresque des Wallons can pride itself on being the first "fresco with a message" in Belgium.
