The mark is a disk engraved "US Geological Survey #MCM C13", set in a concrete post about 12" in. above grade, located on County Route 18 in the town of Petrolia, NY. (Route 18 is reached by going 2.2 miles S off of state route 417 just S of Wellsville, NY.) The mark is located on the E corner of the intersection of Petrolia Road and Bill Allen Hill Road, and is in the grass off the shoulder approx. 20 ft. from the corner of the road. (Historical Note - The mark is approx. 0.2 mile from the first oil well in Allegeny County, NY. - see photo of monument)
