Located at 225 Mowat Avenue in Kingston, this was the house occupied by Sir John A. Macdonald while he was the member of the Legislative Assembly for Kingston.

Macdonald went on to fame as one of the Fathers of Confederation of Canada, and became the country's first Prime Minister in 1867.

The marker, located on the street in front of the house, reads:

Built 1842

1n 1860 John A.Macdonald's mother
came to live in this house together
with her daughters, Louisa and
Margaret, and Margaret's husband
Professor James Williamson. Mrs.
Macdonald died here in 1862. Until
1865, when Louisa and the
Williamsons moved from the house,
this was Macdonald's legal residence
as member of the Legislative Assembly
for Kingston.

The right side of the sign repeats the text in French.

The house is now a private residence.
