Lured to this park with the promise of a letterbox, this stop turned out to be my favorite stop of the day. Tucked into an little niche at the top of the hill in Echo Lake Park, there are two girders which came from one of the Twin Towers. Sitting in front of the girders is a shiny plaque which lists all 60 of the residents of Union County who perished in the attack on 9/11/2001.
From the Union County article (
visit link) explaining how all three sites were remembered in this display:
"The Union County September 11th Memorial honors those lost in the attacks using design elements that include two girders from the World Trade Center arranged within a five sided area representing the Pentagon, and an Eternal Flame representing those who died in Pennsylvania. The Flame also honors members of the Armed Services and emergency responders."
