Located on the north side of Bear River Dr., north of the Bear River Greenway, this city park was the very first park in Evanston, Wyoming. First dedicated in 1898, it was been re-dedicated 100 years later by a local Cub Scout Pack. The park has seen many changes since 1898. It no longer has a horse race track or bandstand, but it does have a playground and disc golf course.

Evanston's City Park
Evanston's first City Park, now called Hamblin Park, was created in the summer of 1898 on several acres of land along the Bear River, purchased from the State of Wyoming two years earlier. While the park was under construction, the city judge regularly assigned vagrants, who came before him in court, to help clear away the heavy underbrush, willows, and cottonwood trees on the property.
City Park was dedicated on Labor Day 1898. Part of the ceremony was the raising of a large silk flag donated by Evanston businessman Isadore Kastor. By the mid-1920's, the facilities at the park included picnic tables, a bandstand, a baseball field, and a horse racing track. Travelers motoring through on the Lincoln Highway could stay at the Sunset tourist camp adjacent to the park. Later, the Evanston City Council renamed the park in honor of Robert Hamblin (mayor, 1957-1961). In September 1998, Evanston Cub Scout Pack 2 commemorated the original dedication with a flag ceremony. As they did 100 years ago, Evanston residents continue to enjoy the amenities of their first city park.
