The National Cryptologic Museum is an amazing little museum sitting right next to the NSA (National Security Agency). Hanging in the outside entrance to this museum is the original seal for the NSA created in 1968.
The plaque next to the seal reads:
Mosaic of the NSA Seal
In 1965, tasked by the Director of NSA, the chief of the graphics department created the seal of the National Security Agency that is still used today. The eagle emphasizes the national mission of the agency and the key represents security.
In 1968, the graphics department created the mosaid seal you see here. Weighing approximately 75 pounds, it is made with more than 20,000 pieces of Italian smalti glass hand cut to fit the design. It was installed in the lobby of NSA's Headquarters building in January 1969 where it remained until 2013, before coming to the museum.
Specific visit requirements: Mosaic is hanging outside the main door to the National Cryptographic Museum. There is no fee to view the mosaic nor to enter the museum. It might be wise to only visit this area during museum hours.
