A 2004 Texas Historical Marker at Union Cemetery notes that the earliest marked grave in the cemetery dates to 1885. A Findagrave search turns up May Hinton as that burial, the only one from 1885.

This young girl is buried with her family near the back of the cemetery, and her grave is marked with a modern, gray, granite headstone. There is no indication as to whether it is a replacement for an earlier marker. There are flowers in the upper corners, and the inscription reads:

May Hinton
Sept. 1, 1883
Mar. 8, 1885

---

The historical marker provides some background:

By 1860, David Thompson acquired land in this vicinity on the original Hezekiah Mitcham Land Survey. He established a grist mill and cotton gin on Wildcat Creek. Thompson's sons conveyed land at this site for Union Church and School purposes. By 1885, the date of the earliest marked grave, local residents used the land adjacent to the church for burial. The church, school and post office for the dispersed Wildcat, or Thompson's Mill, community closed near the turn of the 20th century, but area residents continued using the burial ground, which is now maintained by a cemetery association.
