Sanibel Island has an extensive network of bicycle paths for visitors and residents to utilize. Some of the paths go for long stretches with little to no shade or places to stop and rest.

A series of gazebos have been strategically set up along the bicycle paths for cyclists and pedestrians to stop and rest. Besides providing shade and a place to sit they also have trash cans, recycle bins, and water fountains. This particular gazebo rest stop also has a marker with information on the islands prolific gopher tortoise.

Sponsorship of this gazebo is by The Sanibel-Captiva Lions Club and The Sanibel Bicycle Club in cooperation with the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge.
